• 15 march, 2008( Chaitra 2)- Interaction program on psycho social counseling. The mission was to highlight the importance of psycho social counselling. Total of 17 participants were present who also suggested that such program be held twice a month.
  
  
• Orientation on ENT Health issues. The program was facilitated by pediatric audiology scientist, Dr Jyoti Thapa. The aim was to educate the parents on ENT problems associated with DS and its care.
  
  
  
  
  
  
• The president attended a workshop on speech therapy in Singapore with assistance of Down Syndrome Association of India. This has aided largely at development of speech in our children (Shila Thapa with Sara Rosefield).

  • Annual Dental camp
  • Monthly Psycho Social counseling program

The parents, who have attended counseling workshops, visit the parents of children with Down syndrome on request, to offer support and information. SUPPORT GROUPS:

These camps are aimed at bringing closer the families of Down Syndrome to each other, thus building a strong group that can take care advise and help each others when needed. This group meets once in a month and at present we have nearly 100 families associated with us.

Newsletter Program, Satya Sandesh is a newsletter containing local, national and international information on Down syndrome is produced, printed and distributed by the Association to its members.

A number of social events are held throughout the year, including orientation program, cultural programs, picnics, and birthday parties. January 11 (Poush 27), Inclusive Cultural Program- A total 53 artists performed different variety like Fusion Music, Newari dance and other folk and cultural dances. The point of attraction was a Newari dance performed by an Israeli volunteer and a Tamang selo performed by two boys with Down syndrome together with two normal girls as part of our Inclusion Program. The mission of this program was to sensitize the society and raise awareness. Yet, the aim plus was also fund raising, which gathered Rs. 35000 in the Association fund.

May 10 (Baishak 28) - Down Syndrome Orientation Program in Pokhara Mission of this program was to educate the society and raise awareness. 54 participants took part from all sectors like mothers group ,medical practitioner ,school principle, social worker and parents. The program was newer for them and the participants suggested to further expand to VDC level.

Interaction with Viviana Fernandez, a board member of national Down syndrome congress (NDSC) and also an anchor and a journalist of CNN, participated by the stake holders in the field of Disability in Nepal. The object was to share ideas and expertise. The program revolved around discussion on NDSC and how best to move about in Nepal. Ms Fernandez also granted DSAN a one year membership in NDSC.

Satyam day care: A fair amount of books plus some videos and audio tapes on Down syndrome is available at the office to aid the parents. Information sheets, articles, journals and booklets on related topics are also available. We have lobbyed in some private and government agencies including the ministries seeking better opportunities for people with DS and to design a study curriculum for primary and higher level education. One of our members, who is also a parent of a boy with DS is providing a volunteery service who is presently undergoing Montessori Training at ECDC which is expected to put us on a better track for future development. Many people donated books for our organisation.

Latter Day Saint Charity has provided some playground equipment on July, 2007, Likewise, British School has promised us addition of other necessary equipment. Children with Down syndrome attend playgroup sessions which focus on the development of skills through play and interaction, and which form a support forum for parents or other family members which also act as the therapy.

March 23- Sangharsa telelivision program telecast the documentary about the Down Syndrom Association's activities and its story on the initiation of the organization, the documentary was coordinated by the Aarati chaut as program coordinator. As an impact of the program we got the chance to contact and network with other new parents, among these one of the child was found to have the heart problem for which we suggested them to take the child immediately for the treatment.


With Objectives:
The objectives of this programme are,

• The main objectives of this program are as follows
• To identify the problems of the mother groups.
• To create awareness among the mothers about cross disability (different types of disabilities)
• To educate them about the disabilities of their children.

Our program was completely focused on the problems that a parent specially a mother has to face while raising their child with disability. From our program, we came across various kind of constraints that they have to face while raising there child They need assurance from government or any other responsible organization to make sure that their children are being taken care of after them. Thus, there is urge of awareness program across the society, so that it would be much more easier for the parents to bring out there children in public which is much more needed for people with disability, other people tend to be afraid of such people and opt to stay away from them it is because of their lack of knowledge so it is very necessary to aware about these topics in national level. There seem to be need of Training program for mothers on knowledge of sexual issue and make them more open about it to discuss it with their children.
